SUMMARY:Chicken Lovers April Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Chicken Lovers\n\nGeneral discussion and getting to know each o
ther\, of all aspects related to chickens in the city. For people who alre
ady have chickens or are very seriously thinking of getting some. \n\nAlso\
, exchange of excess chickens\, equipment--free\, for sale\, or on loan (su
ch as a nice brooder I have that my chicks will soon outgrow). Meet my 6 w
eek old chicks. This will be a mixture of experienced and inexperienced ch
icken owners so we can learn from each other. \n\nI will provide light snac
ks and refreshment. \n\nDIRECTIONS: I live in a small enclave in the North
Beach area. From NW 85th Street\, go north on 28th Ave NW\, right on NW 9
2nd under the "Fletchers Village" sign. Mine is the very first house on th
e right. It will be marked clearly with "Meetup" signs. There is parking
for about 6 cars in my driveway. The #18 bus stops a block away. \n\n\n**
*Free Chickens*** \n\nI ordered 25 assorted FEMALE chicks from McMurray Hat
chery. For some reason\, they sent me 30! I cannot possibly keep them all
 \, even though I have a very large yard but I plan to keep 10 or 11. \nIf a
ny or you want some free chickens--all very healthy\, will be full size at
adulthood (medium to large according to the breed)\, excellent layers\, no
bantams-- white orpingtons\, black australorps\, araucanas\, silver polish
\, silver penciled wyandottes\, etc. I've sociallized them\, finger traine
d them\, and hand fed them as much as possible. Most are very tame. I hav
e just a few of each breed\, 6 weeks old now \, so they still are too small
to go outside but will soon not need heatlamps anymore. All will be good
egg layers\, mostly brown eggs and a few blue and green eggs from the arau
canas. I keep them in giant cardboard boxes\, with old fashioned expandabl
e window screens weighted down by bricks on top. When thier adult feathers
grow in\, they will be able to go outside. PLEASE NOTE: although the hat
chery says they are all hens\, it is possible that one or two might turn ou
t to be roosters> I have no Idea which ones\, so I can't be held responsib
